Brave is a plant-based breakfast brand: superfood mixes for people who want nutrition and convenience in the same bowl. Creatd bought all of it in August 2022, its fourth packaged-goods brand, and assigned it out with Basis fourteen months later, keeping a royalty and a small equity interest.
What Brave does
Brave is a plant-based food company that makes healthy breakfast products, superfood mixes sold on subscription. Its founding idea was that conventional breakfast forces a choice between nutrition and convenience, and that it should not. Like the other brands Creatd Ventures bought, it started with a creator and a problem to solve.
Why Creatd bought it
Creatd signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on July 25, 2022 to buy 100% of Brave, and its head of Ventures, Tom Punch, listed the reasons: a health and wellness consumer brand, a subscription-oriented model, and a loyal base of repeat customers. Creatd Ventures had by then consolidated its supply chain across Camp, Dune and Basis and was offering new brands a shared resource model plus audience insight from Vocal. Creatd's executive chairman said the deal fitted the expansion plan the company had presented at its investor day the week before, and that Creatd was in discussions with a number of other candidates.
The acquisition closed on August 24, 2022. It was Creatd Ventures' fourth majority acquisition. Creatd began consolidating Brave's revenue and said the brand's breakfast mixes offered room to develop new products for new and existing subscribers.
What happened under Creatd
Brave joined the Ventures portfolio as Creatd was pushing all four brands onto Amazon and into physical retail; Creatd's August 2022 update on Amazon sales named Brave alongside Camp, Dune and Basis. Its time as a Creatd brand was short. During 2023 Creatd decided to leave packaged goods and concentrate on businesses with better gross margins, and Brave and Basis were phased out over the year.
How Creatd exited
On October 10, 2023 Creatd Ventures LLC completed an assignment and assumption agreement transferring the assets and liabilities of Brave and Basis to a private investor group. Creatd said the transaction removed nearly $300,000 in liabilities from its balance sheet and about $500,000 in future operating expenses, with no material change to net revenue because the businesses had already been wound down. Creatd's third-quarter 2023 report described the sale as part of exiting its consumer packaged goods division.
What Creatd kept
A 7.5% interest in Brave and a royalty and service agreement, according to Creatd's December 2023 release, which cited Brave and Basis as the model for how Creatd later spun out Orbit. Brave is a private company and Creatd does not publish its results. Creatd's Form S-1 lists Brave among its past acquisitions and records the October 2023 assignment.
